Privacy Policy for ClearWeather

Overview

ClearWeather (“the App”) is designed with your privacy in mind. The App does not collect, store, or share any personal information with us or any third parties. This privacy policy explains what data the App accesses and how it is used.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not create user accounts or profiles.
• We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers.
• We do not use analytics or crash reporting services.
• We do not use advertising or ad tracking.
• We do not sell, share, or transmit any data to third parties.

Location Data

The App requests access to your device’s location only when you are using the App (When In Use authorization). Your location coordinates are used solely to fetch weather data for your area. Location data is:

• Sent directly from your device to the weather data providers listed below.
• Never stored on any server we operate.
• Never shared with any third party beyond the weather data requests.

You can also use the App without granting location access by searching for a city manually.

Third-Party Services

The App communicates directly with the following free, open data services to provide weather information:

1. Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — Weather forecasts and air quality data. Open-Meteo receives your latitude and longitude to return weather data. See their privacy policy at https://open-meteo.com/en/terms.

2. OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) — Reverse geocoding (converting coordinates to a place name) and city search. Nominatim receives your coordinates or search query. See their privacy policy at https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

3. NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (services.swpc.noaa.gov) — Geomagnetic Kp index data. This request does not include any location or personal data.

Local Data Storage

The App stores the following data locally on your device using UserDefaults (shared with the widget extension via an App Group):

• Your last viewed location coordinates (for the widget and background refresh).
• Your manually selected city (if applicable).
• Recent search history (up to 5 entries).
• A weather data snapshot (for the widget).

This data never leaves your device except as described in the Third-Party Services section above.

Widgets

The App includes home screen widgets that display cached weather data. Widget data is stored locally in a shared App Group container and is not transmitted anywhere.

Background Refresh

The App may periodically refresh weather data in the background using your last viewed location. This uses the same third-party services listed above and does not transmit any additional data.

Children’s Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any information from children. The App is suitable for all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
